LNP Dismisses Officer Trawally Over Killing of Minor

The Liberia National Police has announced the dismissal of one of its officers— Ismael Trawally, in connection to the death of a minor.

Making the pronouncement at a news conference Thursday, Police Inspector General Col. Gregory Coleman said Corp. Ismael Trawally has been dismissed from the police due to his involvement in the shooting of little James Karnley in the ELWA Rehab Community on July 1, 2024.

He said following preliminary investigation by the Professional Standard Division of the LNP, it was established that officer Trawally used force on the late Karnely who posed no threat to him.

The Police I.G expressed sadness over the death of the innocent child stressing that the dismissed officer failed to protect the life the minor.

Meanwhile, the police I.G apologized for the reckless action of the dismissed officer whilst expressing the government’s deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the country at large.

“The force used by Officer Trawally was not proportional neither was it necessary, he has been turned over to the CSD who also completed their investigation on this issue,” he said.

Meanwhile, dismissed officer Trawally has been charged with negligent homicide by police investigators and will be forwarded to court to face prosecution.

Col. Coleman assures the public that while it is true the police cannot control individual’s action, but when an officer step outside of the rule of law the law actions will be taken.
