“Liberia 177th Independence Day: A Call for Unity and Transformation”

Monrovia, Liberia July 26, 2024:
As Liberia celebrated its 177th Independence Day, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and national orator Dr. Robtel Neajai Pailey delivered a touching remarks that resonated deeply with citizens, urging a collective commitment to unity and progress.
In his speech at the Centennial Pavilion, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai expressed gratitude for the nation’s resilience and the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom, justice, and democracy. He acknowledged that while Liberia enjoys independence, many citizens still face challenges such as hunger, homelessness, and economic inequality.
“What good is our freedom when so many of our fellow citizens are struggling?” he questioned, emphasizing the need for a more inclusive approach to governance. He urged Liberians to come together to build a “New Liberia for All,” addressing the historical divisions that have hindered national progress.
Similarly, Dr. Pailey’s national orator highlighted Liberia’s unique legacy as Africa’s first black republic, framing the nation’s independence as a revolutionary act against oppression. She lamented the disunity that has plagued the country, calling for a revival of core values such as dignity and mutual respect.
“Somehow, we lost touch with our common humanity,” she stated, while emphasizing the need to look beyond their historical challenges toward a transformative future.
Both leaders echoed a commitment to addressing socio-economic disparities and fostering inclusivity. President Boakai called for an onward march towards positive change, while Pailey encouraged citizens to reflect on their actions over the past year and to “BUILD BACK BETTER” with renewed determination.
As Liberia moves forward, the messages of unity, accountability, and shared purpose from this year’s Independence Day celebrations serve as a rallying call for all Liberians to embrace their diversity and work towards a more equitable future.
