The management of the Liberia Airport Authority has with immediate effect suspended its Director of Security – Mr. Samuel Freeman, after he was linked to the alleged importation of illicit drugs in the country via the Roberts International Airport. Freeman was placed on indefinite suspension pending the outcome of an investigation into his alleged role in the smuggling of cargo from the tarmac through an unauthorized gate. Following the invitation of the government of Liberia, the European Union has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EU EOM), led by Chief Observer Andreas Schieder, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Austria, to observe the General Elections on 10 October.
