Gov’t First Witness Testifies In Gloria Scott’s Trial

At long last, the alleged murder case involving former Chief Justice Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott and others; has commenced at Criminal Court “A” with the first state witness taking the witness’ stand on Monday, September 4, 2023.

The case officially got on the way following all other legal technicalities inclusive of the selection of jurors.

Taking the witness stand, prosecution’s first witness— Zion Tarr who claimed to be the security guard on duty at the Brewerville home of the former Chief Justice, said he went to work that fateful day –February 22, 2023 and reportedly saw Charloe Musu (now deceased)who he claimed opened the gate of the fence.

According to him, it was about 7:30pm, when Charloe opened the gate, after entering the fence, he informed the court that Charloe locked the gate and took away the keys into the main building.

Upon entering the fence where he met two other colleagues, he said they embarked on their routine search around the building and noticed all was in tight.

Zion said he was posted on the flattop attached to the fence while his colleagues Moses Wright and Anthony Musu were sitting under the palava hut.

Fast forward, he informed the court that Charloe Musu came and served them with food which he and his colleagues ate.

Meanwhile, Zion informed the court that a few minutes later; they, the security officers heard someone crying from within the building.

Upon hearing the noise, they decided to find out what exactly was unfolding.

Because the main door to the house was locked from within, they decided to move to the window where defendant Gertrude Newton reportedly pushed the window glass and started shouting saying “oh my people, armed robbers in the house and they have stabbed the other girl.”

He alleged that as Gertrude was shouting, they responded by saying, the door was locked and they could not enter the house on grounds they never had the keys.

As the crying from within was getting louder, he said they used a cutlass to break the iron bar of the window to have access to the room.

As they succeeded in destroying a portion of the window, he narrated that it was through that path that defendants Gertrude, Ma Rebecca Wisner and Alice Johnson used to get out.

After a while, he narrates that the former Chief Justice and Charloe were taken out of the house while the victim (Charloe) was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival.

At this point, one of the jurors on the case asked witness Zion how he got to know that the former Chief Justice and Charloe were taken out?

“I said the community people passed in the house through the window and that’s how they brought Cllr. Scott and the girl who was stabbed outside,” he said.

The judge presiding over the case asked: “…Mr. Witness, even though the defendants said armed robbers jumped on them and you should please come and even you did not see anyone, but as a security officer, was it possible for armed robbers to jump on them? He responded “no, not possible.”
